Jobs and careers in the building trades offer great variety and opportunities for many. Residential, commercial, industrial and office properties need building, developing and maintaining. Careers within this industry include brick layers, carpenters (known as chippies in the UK), electricians (known as sparkies), plumbers, decorators, roofers, locksmiths, glaziers, landscapers & gardeners, surveyors, architects – the list goes on.
Talk to friends and family as these opportunities are often filled by word of mouth. For general building trade jobs you don’t need many qualifications, just a willing attitude and a strong back!
However, college education is vital for trades such as electricians, plumbers and carpenters. Surveyors and architects usually attend university too.
